Dems salivate after wins on GOP turf - David Mark and Josh Kraushaar - Politico.com: "Party officials say that the Kentucky results will prompt a new push to oust Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in 2008 and that the Democratic takeover of the state Senate in Virginia could put several GOP-held House seats in play. The twin victories suggest that even elements of the solidly Republican South could be increasingly competitive heading into next year’s presidential election — though Republican Gov. Haley Barbour easily won reelection in Mississippi, largely on the strength of his much-lauded leadership in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005."
