Obama calls cloning 'dangerous, profoundly wrong'

Obama calls cloning 'dangerous, profoundly wrong': "WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama says human cloning is 'dangerous, profoundly wrong' and has no place in society.

Obama made the comments as he was signing an executive order that will allow federal spending on embryonic stem cell research.

Some critics say the research can lead to human cloning. Obama said the government will develop strict guidelines for the research because misuse or abuse is unacceptable.

He said he would ensure that the government never opens the door to the use of cloning for human reproduction"

Worrisome. Does BHO understand what "cloning" means?

We CURRENTLY clone people every time we do in vitro fertilization if the lab does select which zygote to use. A small step from there would be to allow the fertilized egg to become an inner cell mass(the earliest precursor of the embryo itself) and then use one of these totipotent cells for the IVF. A major reason FOR doing this may be the ability, using inner cell mass cells for gene therapy to correct mutations like sickle cell.

While such people be clones, our ability to selct good clones to implant would mean a better chance of IVF yielding healthy people.

This raises the question does cloning mean multiples? If I use cloning methods to make a single baby, is that illegal?

Come on Steve - he was referring to human cloning. Bacteria clone themselves every day and no one cares (not even the E. coli).
