Crosscut Seattle - Renovate Husky Stadium? Banish them to Qwest Field
Crosscut Seattle - Renovate Husky Stadium? Banish them to Qwest Field: "To your other point, I would favor the Huskies playing at Qwest Field if they could 'Huskify' the stadium for their games. It's Field Turf so perhaps they could insert Husky end zone and midfield logos for Saturdays. Furthermore, I'm sure it wouldn't be impossible for the NFL and the NCAA to schedule alternating weekends so there isn't a rush to clean/prepare the stadium between a Saturday and Sunday game. The more I think about it, the more I like it. Count me as a proponent of a complete tear-down of Husky Stadium."
I like this idea a lot IF the stadium area can be developed into a public facility that takes advantage of its unique location both on the Lake and as part of the UW. The monstrous parking lot could be replaced by a high rise structure that would make better use of high priority land. The resulting area would be superb for a mix of activities built around the existing water front activities center. This could include teaching building built to take advantage of this spectacular site. Another possibility would be to move the Burke. The current location on campus has long been needed for other things and is really not very good exhibit space. An expanded Burke at this site would be a great public attraction.
Another possibility would be to collaborate with the City or County in constructing a public waterfront activities center, perhaps a small boat Matina that would allow commuting by boat from the Eastside.
