Patriotism Means Making a Choice
John McCain, the hero I once admired, usually addresses his supporters by saying, “Friends …” In that spirit,
“friends, I come not to praise John McCain but to grieve over what he has become.
If my metaphor seems to conflate the Shakespearean picture of Marcus Anthony with our current world, the issue is the same .. our Republic is at risk. The advent of Palin shows that the once noble Republican Party, the defenders of the Union and visionaries of the birth of the US as a world power, is NOW in the hands of a radical fringe 4R party, the Radical Republican Religious Remnant.
One lesson from Anthony’s speech is local, Dino Rossi must leave the stage if the Republic is to survive.
Rossi’s election or failure to be elected will not determine the fate of our Republic. He is, however, a footsoldier in a movement as important as the one that led Caesar’s best friends to turn against their hero. Anthony spoke at the funeral of a noble man, a person many saw as the essence of Rome … a hero. The conspirators killed Caesar not because they did not admire the man, but because they saw that his leadership, like that in later years of Augustus, Mohamed, Napoleon, Crazy Horseor Mao would undermine the ideal of the very society the leader represented.
In our own local election, Dino Rossi is a competent man, good politician, and possibly the next Governor despite Obams’ a likely win.
Rossi must lose.
