City of Seattle may start 311 info service - Examiner.com: "SEATTLE (Map, News) - Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels has asked the city council to approve nearly $9 million to establish 311 phone service. It would provide a single simple number for residents to call with questions, and it would ensure they get an answer. If approved, the 311 service would cost more than $4 million a year to operate. The call center would have about 40 operators answering calls 24 hours a day. Each call would be tracked until resolved. The city council is considering the idea as part of the mayor's budget proposal. The city government has more than 1,000 phone numbers that get about 10 million calls a year. ---"
This sounds great but in theory t should save enough $$ to be free.
