New Hope for the Electric Car -- Germans Develop Battery

New Hope for the Electric Car -- Germans Develop Battery: "New Hope for the Electric Car -- Germans Develop Battery German engineers in eastern Saxony have developed a lithium-ion battery membrane that could be used to make the electric car a common thing. The electric car has been held back by problems developing a light-weight battery that's quick to charge. Toyota had been the front runner for electric car technology, but the German team said their batteries 'take up 30 percent less volume than those from Toyota' and also 'allow you to go three times further for the same weight than French models.' Lithium-ion batteries have a serious danger of exploding if they overheat. The German team from Li-Tec created thermal stability in that the electrodes are separated by a flexible ceramic membrane."
